Bruce Springsteen spoke about the shooting that took place during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with Donald Trump last Saturday (25).

Despite being an outspoken critic of the American president, the 76-year-old singer opened a show in Austin, Texas, on Sunday night (26) by expressing his solidarity with those who were present at the event when everything happened.

“We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women serving overseas, we pray for their safe return,” said Springsteen, according to videos shared by fans on social media.

“We also send a prayer of gratitude that neither our president, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone present was injured in last night’s incident at the correspondents’ dinner.”

“We can disagree. We can criticize those in power and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs,” Springsteen continued. “But there is absolutely no place for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States.”

According to CNN, the suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, entered the Hilton hotel in Washington, D.C., when the event began on Saturday (25), carrying a .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.

According to CBS News, a Secret Service agent was struck by a shot believed to have been fired by the gunman. He was apprehended by agents before reaching the main hall, but reportedly “clearly stated” that he was targeting employees of the Trump administration, according to the White House.
